Don't Drink and Drive this Christmas | |
|
"You can't calculate your alcohol limit, so don't try", warn Sussex Police, local organisations and companies this Christmas. East Sussex County Council and Sussex Police have joined forces with Eastbourne Buses, pubs and supermarkets across the county to promote the Department for Transport's Christmas Drink Drive Campaign. It takes less than you might think for your driving to be impaired by alcohol, warns the campaign, and even one or two drinks can affect reactions and lead to serious and fatal crashes. |

Lead member for Transport and Environment, Councillor Lock said: "There are too many irresponsible drivers who think they can drink alcohol and still drive safely, despite the fact that in 2004, 590 people were killed in drink drive related crashes. "We need to keep stressing the message that this is a recipe for disaster. Not only are these drivers breaking the law, they are risking their lives and those of other road users. Motorists can't calculate their own drink drive limits - if they plan to drive, the only safe thing is to drink nothing." Eastbourne Buses will be driving the message home over the festive season, with don't drink and drive posters on the inside and outside of the buses. The County Council road safety team and Sussex police have been holding exhibitions in shopping centres, supermarkets and council buildings over the last month to raise awareness of the dangers of drink driving. Posters and leaflets have been distributed to all East Sussex libraries, schools, colleges and County Council offices. If other organisations would like to put up posters and leaflets to support the campaign, contact the Road Safety Unit on 01273 482208. |

Service 52 - Icy Roads - Heathfield to Tunbridge Wells
Journeys on Service 52 are being delayed or cancelled due to the road freezing at Mark Cross and Rotherfield. Buses and large vehicles started to slide whilst travelling in the Mark Cross area causing traffic jams. Journeys were operated between Eastbourne and Cross-in-Hand until the County Council gritters were able to clear the ice and get the traffic moving. We can only apologise for any inconvenience caused due to these unusual circumstances. |
