Sussex Countycard - Now available for Men aged 60 and over

Due to a change in Government legislation from the 1st April 2003, men aged 60 and over are now entitled to concessionary travel on bus services in the area. The current Sussex Countycard concessionary fares scheme provided by the County Council in conjunction with the District Councils has been extended to cover this availability. The conditions for qualification remain unchanged apart from the age at which they are available for men.

Delays to Services

Due to East Sussex County Council surveyors stopping traffic to question car drivers, on the old A22 at Willingdon Triangle, severe delays were caused to all our services between Eastbourne and Hailsham.

During the afternoon, the problem was made worse when a lorry broke down at the same place causing oil to be spilt on the road. This caused long tail-backs and meant that services 1 and 1A travelling to and from Hamlands were also affected by late running.

Our Drivers and Control staff worked very hard to minimise delays and we apologise most sincerely for any inconvenience caused by the above incidents which were totally out of our control.

We have taken the matter up with East Sussex County Council to try and make sure that any future surveys do not cause the problems that were experienced today.

Roadworks - Tesco Roundabout, Lottbridge Drove

Owing to a lane closure on Lottbridge Drove due to roadworks at Tescos, causing traffic jams, delays to some services in this area were experienced on Friday 11th April.

The same works are likely to take place during this week, so delays to some services are expected during peak times.

We will do everything we can to minimise any late running and we apologise most sincerely for any inconvenience caused but obviously the roadworks and subsequent traffic jams are totally out of our control.

Fares on Local Rider Services will be increased by about 10 per cent from 21st April 2003.

This is the first general increase since October 2000 and is required due to the very high increases in tender prices for the provision of Local Rider Services.
